Welcome to the Belcarra and Ioco region of Greater Vancouver!

The region comprises the communities of Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Belcarra and Anmore. At one time the terminus of the transcontinental railroad at the turn of the 20th century, the Belcarra and Ioco area is now a captivating recreational spot many residents of the Lower Mainland.

Located east by south east of the Indian Arm, the terrain varies from coastal mountains to sandy beaches, and marshland. Quick and relaxed afternoon walks to day long hiking trips offer rewarding and spectacular views of Downtown Vancouver and south east towards the Tri-Cities, Surrey and Burnaby.

Interesting Facts
  • More than 40 tributaries flow out from Port Moody into the Burrard Inlet

  • Both Buntzen Lake and Sasamat Lake offer freshwater sandy beaches.

  • Traditionally, the Tsleil-Waututh First Nations would camp in the Belcarra area.

  • Coquitlam Search and Rescue is responsible for the wilderness area and inland water area bounded by the Indian Arm on the west, Pitt Lake on the east, Garibaldi Park to the north, and the Fraser River to the south.
