Metro Vancouver has just announced their 2020 reopening date for the Grouse Grind: Monday, June 22nd. They have adapted to a post-COVID environment, implementing procedures to help keep everyone safe and adhere with Dr. Bonnie Henry's guidance.

There will be a different experience, but rest assured it's still a gruelling 2.9 kilometre trek up the side of a mountain.

Most of the guidelines presented by Metro Vancouver are commonplace across most public activities now:
  • Staying home if you have cold or flu symptoms
  • Maintaining a physical distance of at least two metres from others wherever possible
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
As well, they are re-emphasizing current Grind recommendations:
  • Stay to the right on the trail
  • Pass on the left

The Gondola

The notable changes are all around taking the Skyride gondola. Pre-planning is required if you will be taking the Skyride to return to the parking lot after your hike. You must reserve a time in advance through their website, grousemountain.com. As of publishing this article, they have not yet provided a way to make a reservation but will have committed to updating their site soon.

In addition, all passengers will be required to wear a facemask and undergo a mandatory temperature check. Better pack that facemask and make sure to cool down before you jump in line!

Alternatively, you can always hike down the BCMC trail. However, plan for additional hour and a half to your trip.

Grouse Mountain Sunset

At of publishing this article, it's unclear if there are any changes to the dining options and facilities at the Grouse Mountain lodge. Stay tuned as we continue to provide updates.
