How to Hike a Trail in Vancouver
Because of the many types of trails around the Lower Mainland, there are several different forms of markers you may encounter that will direct you to the correct route.
Signs or arrows are the easiest markings to find. These are usually on boardwalks or clearly defined trails.
A combination of metal plates and coloured tape nailed to a tree typically guide your way on trails that do not have any defined route such as up a mountainside like Lindsay Lake Loop. Just look for the next marking up to 100 ft ahead to keep on track.
The numbers printed are usually the meters from the trailhead.
Reflectors are often seen on steps and also may be on trees similar to metal plates or coloured tape.
