View of Cypress Mountain and Grouse Mountain on the North Shore from Coal Harbour in Downtown Vancouver
Welcome to the North Shore region of the Lower Mainland!
Spanning from the Howe Sound near Horseshoe Bay all the way to Deep Cove on the West side of the Indian Arm, this area is divided into the cities of West Vancouver, North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver. Popular trails include the Seymour Valley Trailway, the BCMC trail, and the historic Baden Powell trail. Almost anywhere will offer awesome views of the Downtown core, the Burrard Inlet and Stanley Park as well as South West across English Bay towards Nanaimo.
* Please note: Many North Shore hiking trails are seasonal due to the ski season restrictions, limited daylight and heavy snowfall during winter months. Also, because of the higher elevation in most areas of the North Shore, many trails may receive extreme weather at any given time of the year.
The North Shore contains many mountains including Cypress, Black, Grouse and Seymour mountains.
Because of the higher elevation, the North Shore receives a higher amount of precipation than much of the Lower Mainland.
The top elevation is on Cypress Mountain at 1,440 metres (4720 feet)
Grouse Mountain is home to the Grouse Grind Mountain Run; a competition held every summer.
In 2009, work began on the North Shore Spirit Trail Greenway to connect Deep Cove in North Vancouver with Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. The trail provides a continuous and accessible connection to cyclists, walkers and hikers.
